Fury wins 8-7 thriller over Lukes

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. - The Niagara Falls Storm's Fury improved their GHFL record to 5-1-1 Thursday night as they knocked off Lukes by the score of 8-7.

In the bottom of the 7th with the score tied 7-7 and two on and two out, Mark Korten hit a grounder to the shortstop who missed the tag on Peter Dobbin and threw it away at first scoring Dobbin from second base for the winning run.

The Fury led 3-0 early on with a two-run single by Smitty and a one-run double from Tom Watkinson.

Lukes offense came alive in the fourth and fifth innings scoring six times to take a 6-3 lead.

That lead would be short lived as the Fury answered back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. With two out and runners on second and third, Lukes pitcher Tom Berube would intentionally walk Peter Dobbin to load the bases and face Ray Carr. Carr would capitalize on the opportunity hitting a two-run double to right giving the Fury the 7-6 lead.

In the top of the 6th, Lukes would tie the game 7-7.

Leading the Fury offense was Dobbin and Carr who combined for six of the Fury's 12 hits on the night. Dobbin was 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored while Carr went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI.

Joe Parker picked up the victory in relief of starter Butch Provost. Parker went 2 2/3 innings allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts.
